Modeled
after several proven philosophies utilizing "hands-on
learning," our preschool enrichment program develops
independence, confidence, self-direction and self-control
while teaching basic readiness skills such as color, number,
letter and shape-recognition, spatial concepts, calendar
reading and an understanding of seasons and weather. We also
emphasize the importance of being a helpful part of the
community. Self-navigating their way through several carefully
constructed "work stations," our preschoolers learn about
math, science, geography, reading, music, art and more through
free play and exploration.
The
Youth Center has a 7,000 square foot building with large
windows – natural sunlight (former Lutheran Church) with a
full-size gym, a complete kitchen for our “home economics”
curriculum and an oversized classroom with learning centers to
assure a comfortable learning environment. We also utilize our
outdoor playground, picnic grove and pavilion.
We
nurture self-esteem as we encourage listening skills,
following directions, learning to work with others and taking
turns. Additionally, we teach multi-cultural diversity and
acceptance for all people by introducing clothing, foods,
dress and musical instruments from around the world. Dolls
with seeing-eye dogs, hearing aids or walkers enhance this
focus. Health, fitness and proper nutrition are also
emphasized through special materials, i.e. food pyramid
puzzles, play food, tapes and gym equipment for physical
activity.
We have
our own preschool lending library with over 500 books.
We
offer structure and order in a caring environment in all
classes.
Field trips are also a regular part of the
school curriculum which enhances the learning
process.
PATT (Parents and Teachers
Together) organization meets periodically to provide
special programs and activities throughout the year.
